Never before read copy which includes the original AFS bookmark that reprints the introduction to the book, two maps of the AFS locations in France and the Balkans, and finally, unique to this copy, an original letter which may indicate this book was owned by a AFS volunteer. It is an original typed letter confirming the details of a particular volunteer. The letter was signed in ink by Stephen Galatti, one of the founders and leaders of the AFS both during and afterthe war. $35. The letter reads as follows: This is to certify that Roger Francis Clapp enlisted in the American Field Service as a volunteer on August 7, 1917 and was sent to S.S.U. 16. On September 7, 1917, at the time this Section of the Field Service was being militarized, Mr. Clapp signed up in the U.S. Army Ambulance Service with the French Army and remained in S.S.U. 16, which became S.S.U. 634, until the end of the war. - Very truly yours, Stephen Galatti |
